AmeriCorps is a network of national service programs that engage more than 50,000 Americans each year in intensive service to meet critical needs in education, public safety, health, and the environment. Since 1994, more than 250,000 men and women have served in AmeriCorps, providing needed assistance to millions of Americans. AmeriCorps members play a vital role in managing New York Cares’ Youth Service Programs.
New York City Office of Emergency Management (OEM) New York City Office of Emergency Management (OEM) works to mitigate, and plan and prepare for emergencies; educate the public about preparedness; coordinate emergency response and recovery efforts; collect and disseminate critical information; and support of the overall preparedness of the City of New York. As the City’s lead organization for the management of unaffiliated volunteers, New York Cares works closely with OEM to ensure that volunteers can be quickly and effectively mobilized in the event of a disaster.
