Adult Education Volunteer Programs Manager
The Manager of Adult Education plans projects where teams of volunteers assist adults with financial literacy classes, preparing tax returns, computer literacy and life skill development. This position is responsible for coordinating and evaluating over 50 on-going educational enrichment projects that volunteers implement, including the New York Cares Volunteer Tax Preparer program that prepared over $4.8 million in tax refunds for low-income New Yorkers this year. The Manager also expands programming by identifying new project sites and developing new program models. In addition, s/he plans and manages one-time volunteer projects for corporate volunteer groups to implement in the community.
Responsibilities: Specific program management responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Planning and implementing creative, well-organized, and high-quality programs that capitalize on the time and talents of teams of volunteers;
Creating, managing, and implementing curricula for projects;
Developing and maintaining strong, collaborative partnerships with New York Cares Project Partner agencies (transitional housing facilities, community based organizations, schools, and city agencies);
Conducting regular site visits to partner agencies and volunteer projects;
Recruiting, supporting, and training volunteer project Team Leaders and developing and conducting volunteer trainings;
Identifying and coordinating project support resources;
Keeping accurate database records on all service programs; generating and monitoring programmatic data.
Evaluating programs;
Writing detailed descriptions of programs for volunteer outreach publications and funding proposals;
Assisting, as necessary, with organization-wide initiatives including Annual Events and volunteer orientations.
Additionally, New York Cares volunteer projects, trainings, and events take place before and after work and on weekend, requiring the Program Manager to work several evenings per month and multiple weekend days a year.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree with relevant professional experience, including program development/ management.
Commitment to doing indirect service for volunteers to implement.
Creativity in approaching program planning.
Strong organizational skills; able to manage many projects simultaneously and determine priorities.
Excellent interpersonal skills and interest in working with people. Ability to communicate effectively and problem solve with agency contacts, volunteers, corporate contacts and staff.
Ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Familiarity with computers (Mac OS and database experience a plus).
Volunteer experience, plus a commitment to volunteerism and to corporate social responsibility.

Community and Corporate Programs Manager
Reporting to the Director of Community and Corporate Partnerships, the Community and Corporate Program Manager is part of a four-person staff team that coordinates, develops, manages and evaluates New York Cares' volunteer programs serving seniors, people living with HIV/AIDS, mental disabilities as well as some environmental programs.
Responsibilities:

Cultivating and maintaining collaborative partnerships with Project Partner agencies (nursing homes, community centers, assisted living housing facilities and other community and city agencies)

Office Coordinator, Operations
Reporting to the Senior Director of Finance and Operations, the qualified candidate will be an energetic, organized team player who is willing to chip in when necessary, learn about New York Cares program areas and participate in organizational activities.
Objective:
Assist in ensuring smooth flow of administrative and facility operations
Responsibilities:
Administrative: Assist staff with administrative functions as needed. Assist with Board of Directors' correspondence and meeting calendar. Update Board info in database. Provide backup for telephone switchboard from 1:00pm - 2:00pm daily.
Financial: Prepare daily bank deposits and mail outgoing checks. Assist in inputting accounts payable/accounts receivable and other financial tasks.
Equipment: Ensure office equipment, including fax and copier, postage machine, alarm system, air conditioning, etc. are working properly and necessary supplies (i.e. paper and toner) are available. Liaise w/ service providers for equipment repair. Update phone extensions & contact service providers to repair phones, lines, extensions or the voicemail system.
Mail Services: Process and stamp all outgoing mail on a daily basis & add postage to meter.
HR: Assist in orienting new staff including providing overview of office environment and equipment usage. Distribute and collect office keys & maintain key inventory.
Purchasing: Order office supplies & ensure received order is correct. Stock supply closet and maintain it in an orderly fashion. Stock bathroom and kitchen supplies. Retrieve meeting supplies and set-up space for staff functions.
Other: Prepare checks for mailing and deposit. Send email reminders for evaluations/birthdays. Liaise with building maintenance and outside vendors for necessary repairs. Enter Volunteer Information Forms into database.
In addition, the Office Coordinator will be involved on an as-needed basis in organization-wide initiatives such as Annual Events, Special Events, Corporate Services Projects and new volunteer orientations.

Seasonal Benefit Assistant
This is a temporary position from August 2008 through February 2009 that will offer the right candidate an opportunity to build their event planning skills. Reporting to the Director of Individual Giving and Special Events, the Seasonal Benefit Assistant will provide support in the planning and execution of the organization's Annual Winter Benefit, taking place Tuesday, December 2, and slated to raise $1.25 million.
Responsibilities: Responsibilities will include but are not limited to assisting in event coordination and implementation (preparation and tracking of invitee mailing lists, tracking and acknowledgement of live auction donors; preparation of seating charts, registration lists, night of event volunteer plan and materials, gift bag assemblyÉ etc.); working with board leadership; using in-house database software for gift entry and timely processing and reconciliation of all donations and ticket purchases; maintaining financial reports; and providing administrative support as needed.

Youth Service Program Associate (AmeriCorps)
New York Cares, a non-profit organization founded in 1987, coordinates and develops volunteer programs to involve New Yorkers in community service. Every year, New York Cares works with tens of thousands of volunteers, hundreds of corporations, and hundreds more nonprofit and community agencies to provide caring New Yorkers with opportunities to volunteer and to offer critical help to New York City communities. New York Cares' award-winning Youth Service Club Program offers meaningful community service opportunities to over 1,400 high school youth each year. Our mission is to inspire New York City youth to become life-long contributors to their communities through youth-led volunteer projects, education about social issues and leadership training. New York Cares is seeking two AmeriCorps Member to assist this initiative in New York City.
Responsibilities: Reporting to the Director of Youth Service, the Youth Service Program Associate (AmeriCorps) Member will create, manage, and maintain volunteer-driven projects and initiatives that address a wide range of social issues. Youth volunteer projects may include serving and delivering meals, cleaning parks, visiting senior citizens, and assisting in after-school programs. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Developing partnerships with schools and community agencies
Coordinating and managing monthly volunteer projects for partnering schools and community agencies
Providing ongoing support to youth volunteers
Developing task-based projects for youth volunteers
Attending each project and managing on-site project needs
Evaluating ongoing projects and school/agency relationships with supervisor
Creating and delivering education and reflection materials for volunteers and school/agency staff
Performing program-related administrative duties
Engaging in community outreach to recruit partner agencies for New York Cares
Participating in and coordinating youth service leadership conferences/trainings
Contributing to and engaging teens to contribute to monthly youth service newsletter
Since New York Cares volunteer projects, trainings and events may take place before and after traditional work hours and on weekends, the AmeriCorps Members will be asked to set schedules that accommodate these hours, in order to visit and assess programs.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience; ability to make a one-year commitment to AmeriCorps and New York Cares; interest in youth service; strong group facilitation skills; excellent interpersonal skills; experience and interest in working with youth; strong administrative skills, including an ability to manage and multi-task many projects; solid problem solving skills; ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team; excellent written and oral communications skills; general knowledge of MSOffice & FileMaker software; and ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of agency contacts & volunteers.
Stipend:
The Youth Service Program Associate (AmeriCorps) Member will receive a weekly stipend of $384.62 , full health benefits, a monthly metro card from New York Cares and an education award of $4,725 upon completion of the year of service (Sept. 2008 - Aug. 2009) .
