The New York Cares Coat Drive will collect, sort, and distribute over 80,000 coats during December and January. Having a place to store, sort, and distribute 80,000 coats -- without paying rent -- is no small thing in New York City.
This year, the space we hoped to use became unavailable at the last minute. Fortunately, real estate firm Jack Resnick & Sons became our angels and donated a 25,000 square foot space in a prime downtown location at 250 Hudson Street. If you're driving into the Holland Tunnel via Canal Street, look up to the fourth floor of the building and you'll see our signs.
The warehouse is a hub of activity: coats are delivered from hundreds of locations around the city; over 1,000 volunteers sort coats by size (men's, women's, kids', and infants') and bag them up for collection by agencies; and over 300 nonprofits serving the homeless, seniors, low income, and unemployed families and individuals collect bags of coats to give to the people who need them most.
We could not be more grateful for this generous donation of prime warehouse space by Jack Resnick & Sons, without which there could not have been a Coat Drive this year!
