50,000 for New York City is New York Cares' year-long initiative to mobilize 50,000 volunteers to strengthen the city. We launched this campaign in April 2009 in support of Mayor Bloomberg's blueprint for civic engagement, NYC Service.
In 2008, we mobilized 43,000 volunteers to help our neighbors in need. Through 50,000 for New York City, we made a commitment to create even more opportunities for New Yorkers to volunteer. Since then, our programs have enabled 50,000 volunteers to serve 400,000 people citywide.
Find out more about this campaign in a Q&A with Executive Director Gary Bagley from April 2009.
