Arvind: Friendly Helper
As Arvind Singh will tell you, volunteering is as much about getting back as it is about giving back. After working with New York Cares for over 5 years, Arvind sees the homeless New Yorkers and isolated seniors he serves meals to as more than just familiar faces. "These projects allow me to interact with people on a personal basis," Arvind says. "I have gotten to know many of the people on a first name basis, and I consider them my friends first." Food and friendship all in one place? It's no wonder Arvind is such a dedicated New York Cares Team Leader.

My Most Meaningful Volunteer Moment:
"I was serving meals at All Souls Church, and my group also had roses to distribute. When I gave a rose to one of my tables, one lady got up, started crying, and gave me a hug."
