Mary: Art Explorer
Mary divides her time as a Team Leader between providing sustenance and caring to the critically ill and expanding children's horizons by doing art projects with those from homeless shelters, community centers, and low-income neighborhood. Mary has been volunteering with New York Cares for almost a decade because, she says, "My life is so comfortable and relatively easy. I want to help those who are not as fortunate."

My Most Memorable Volunteer Moment:
I was reading a book with a five-year-old girl who was living in a shelter with her mother and siblings. The book was about a family expecting a new baby. When we got to the end of the book, she said, 'See? They're a happy family, like everyone here. We're one big happy family!'
