Beth: Reader in 'Residence'
Beth reads bedtime stories with children in homeless shelters. She enjoys "seeing the children eager to read when just a few weeks earlier they could barely sound out a word." Her projects as a volunteer and Team Leader include taking disadvantaged kids to the Aquarium, on a scavenger hunt in Central Park, and other adventures around town. Beth also spends time with AIDS patients at a hospice, playing board games or sometimes just talking. "Their faces light up when I visit," she says. "That energizes me to do more." New York Cares recently honored Beth with a 2008 Volunteer Leadership Award for extraordinary service. Thank you, Beth, for your commitment and dedication!
