Each year, tens of thousands of volunteers turn to New York Cares to find meaningful volunteer opportunities. If you are a nonprofit agency, school or social service organization, New York Cares can help meet your volunteer recruitment needs. There are many ways to benefit from a relationship with New York Cares:
Calendar Projects Program
New York Cares Calendar Projects Program offers a unique way to help meet your volunteer needs by taking the burden of recruitment and co-ordination away from you, while providing a group of volunteers on a consistent and regular basis to help with your work. Each month, thousands of volunteers participate in hundreds of different projects, which take place outside of traditional working hours, at agency locations across the five boroughs.
Annual Events
New York Cares plans and manages several large-scale volunteer events throughout the year. By participating in these events, you have the opportunity to host a team of volunteers able to complete a wide range of tasks or may be eligible to receive warm coats or holiday gifts for your clients.
- Hands On New York Day (April)
More than 5,500 New Yorkers team up to clean and revitalize parks,
community gardens, social service agencies, and public schools at
locations throughout the five boroughs.
- New York Cares Day (October)
Every October, thousands of Caring New Yorkers come together to help
paint a brighter future for New York City students by revitalizing more
than 100 Public Schools. Download Application
- Winter Wishes for Kids and Families (November/December)
Each winter, New York Cares helps fulfill the holiday wishes of more
than 30,000 disadvantaged New Yorkers through our Winter Wishes for Kids
and Families Program (formerly known as Secret Santa).
- New York Cares Coat Drive (December)
Each December, New York Cares collects almost 90,000 gently used
winter coats and distributes them to thousands of men, women and
children who would otherwise go without.
Community Grapevine
Thousands of people turn to New York Cares' web site
to find volunteer opportunities. For opportunities that fall outside the
parameters of our Calendar Projects Program,
our Community Grapevine can provide
an effective resource for promoting your volunteer needs.
In-Kind Donations
New York Cares maintains lists of in-kind donations such as books, clothing, furniture, or toys, which are accepted by local agencies. Let us know about your agency's on-going donation needs, and we'll add you to our referral lists.
