Disaster Response
Disaster Preparedness, Response and Recovery
As the City's lead organization for the management of unaffiliated volunteers, our Emergency Response Program ensures that volunteers can be quickly and effectively mobilized in the event of a disaster.
Get Hands On in the Gulf Coast
Hands On Network (the national organization that New York Cares helped found)
is helping organize long-term recovery and rebuilding efforts in the areas
affected by 2005's devastating hurricanes. Volunteers are needed to help
remove debris and sanitize homes, fix tarps to roofs, conduct social needs
outreach, care for displaced animals and so much more. Meals and accommodation
are provided. To learn more about what you can do to help, visit
