Leadership Tips

  • Prioritize Your Time
Good leaders know the importance of prioritizing their responsibilities. Compile a "to do" list and number the tasks according to priority. Set target dates to help keep you committed to your timeline and focused on your goals.

  • Set Goals
Motivation is an important objective for every leader of a group or organization. Ensure your team members understand the mission and goals of the project. Teams are more effective and motivated when all members are working towards the same goals.

  • Delegate
Be observant and determine each person's strengths and weaknesses. Show people you have confidence in them and delegate specific tasks to them in accordance with their skills. Teach people how to accomplish a task instead of completing it for them.

  • Ask for Feedback and Listen
Give members a chance to take part in decisions. This will facilitate an environment of open communication. Oftentimes, conflict arises from mis-communication or a lack of communication. By giving your team a forum to share opinions and ideas, you can proactively negate conflict.

  • Show Your Appreciation
Give praise for a job well done. A simple and sincere "thank you" is a good way to share your appreciation. Think out of the box when celebrating and rewarding successes.

  • Manage Conflict
Conflict is inherent when working in teams. Unresolved conflicts can affect the progress of the group. Approach these situations in a problem-solving manner when faced with challenges. Gather information and ask for others' viewpoints before developing a plan of action.

  • Be Reliable
Don't make commitments that you can't keep. Follow through is important because it shows that you are responsible and dependable. When making appointments, remember to get the phone number of the person you are meeting in case your plans change.
